The goal of the General Scholarship Program is to support degree-seeking students taking college courses. There are three application periods throughout the year, for students taking Summer classes, those starting in the Fall term, and those starting in the Winter or Spring term.

2026 Application Periods

• Summer: April 1 – April 30
• Fall (Academic Year): June 1 – July 31
• Winter-Spring*: November 1 – December 2

*Students that have been accepted for the current year’s Fall scholarship do not need to re-apply during the following Winter-Spring period.

Scholarship applications are due at 12 PM Noon, Alaska Time, on the day of the deadline. If the deadline falls on a weekend, the applications are due the Friday before. We encourage students to be aware of the deadlines and to apply early in the application period!

• Honors – $5,500
  • 3.5 to 4.0 GPA
  • $2,750 per Semester or ~$1,833 per Quarter
• Exceptional – $4,500
  • 3.0 to 3.49 GPA
  • $2,250 per Semester or $1,500 per Quarter
• Achievement – $3,500
  • 2.5 to 2.99 GPA
  • $1,750 per Semester or ~$1,167 per Quarter
• Merit – $3,000
  • 2.0 to 2.49 GPA
  • $1,500 per Semester or $1,000 per Quarter
• Part-Time – $2,500
  • 2.0+ GPA and taking at least 3 credits
  • $1,250 per Semester or ~$833 per Quarter
• Graduate – $7,500
  • 3.0+ GPA and taking 6 graduate-level credits or more
  • $3,750 per Semester or $2,500 per Quarter
• Special Honors – $12,500
  • 3.0+ GPA and must apply during the Fall period
  • $6,250 per Semester or ~$4167 per Quarter

The listed award amounts are for a full school year, spanning from the Fall to the Spring term. Based on a college’s term system, awards are disbursed as follows:

• Summer students are funded for one Semester or one Quarter.
• Fall academic year students are funded for two Semesters or three Quarters.
• Winter-Spring students are funded for one Semester or two Quarters.

The Ulakaia Center offers competitive $12,500 Special Honors Scholarship awards to selected high-achieving college students.

A student can opt for consideration for a Special Honors Scholarship during the Fall application period, which opens June 1st and closes July 31st. Each year, one student is selected from eligible applicants per award category. Applications are reviewed and selected by the Ulakaia Center and its advisory board. A student may only receive a Special Honors Scholarship once.

In addition to the General Scholarship guidelines, the following requirements apply:

1. Special Honors applicants must provide two letters of recommendation.
2. All Special Honors scholarships require full-time status and a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
3. Special Honors applicants must be in their second year of college or later.

The Special Honors award categories are named in honor of Aleuts who excelled in their professions:

Lillie Hope-McGarvey Health Scholarship: For students majoring in healthcare.

Andrew Gronholdt Arts Scholarship: For students majoring in an art field.

Gabe Stepetin Business Scholarship: For students majoring in a business field.

Alice Petrivelli Leadership Scholarship: For students with leadership experience that are involved in improving their communities.

Elary Gromoff, Jr. Military Veteran Scholarship: For students who have served in the military.

The Ulakaia Center is proud to announce a new Special Honors Scholarship in 2026:

Dave Nevzuroff Accounting Scholarship: For students majoring in accounting.

Dave Nevzuroff, a founding shareholder from King Cove, Alaska, dedicated his 50-year accounting career to serving Aleut and its Shareholders. From Aleut’s earliest days in the 1970s to 2025, when he retired from Aleut, Dave had been a cornerstone of our corporation, bringing unmatched expertise, dedication, and a warm sense of humor to his role.

Students who are majoring in accounting and/or finance are encouraged to apply!

Vocational Scholarship – Up to $6,000 per year.

The Vocational Scholarship is for students pursuing training in administrative fields, construction, culinary arts, mechanics, heavy equipment operations and other related disciplines. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a program lasting longer than 12 weeks. If the student is going to continue their training beyond the full year, they will need to reapply again the following year.

Career Development Scholarship – Up to $5,500 per year.

The Career Development Scholarship is for job-related continuing education. This award is intended for programs lasting less than 12 weeks. Some examples include Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDL), HAZWOPER training, Bar exams, and attendance at professional conferences.

Vocational and Career Development scholarships are offered year-round, subject to available funding.

It is our goal to help train our younger generations to become Aleut leaders. To that end, we connect our Aleut interns with organizations to provide our future leaders with valuable work experience, career exploration and mentorship.

Interested in becoming an intern? Eligible Aleut shareholders and registered descendants are high school students, recent high school graduates, or recent post-secondary graduates (must be at least 16 years old). We will advertise internship opportunities on the Aleut careers page and our social medias as they become available, as well as on our Facebook. If you would like to become an internship host organization, please reach out.

To encourage our youth to excel at school, the Ulakaia Center will award $50 gift cards for up to 20 eligible students who achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher during the previous academic semester. To be awarded, students or their guardians must submit an official school grade report within the application form below. These awards will be issued to the first 20 students who complete the application before the posted deadline.

To be eligible, the applicant must be a youth enrolled in grades 7-12 and an Aleut Corporation shareholder or registered descendant. Awards will be for the first 20 students who submit a completed and correct application.

To enter, eligible youth (or their guardian) must submit a copy of the report card for the immediately preceding semester to the Ulakaia Center by the posted deadline. The report card must clearly show the following:

• Student’s name,
• Academic school year and semester,
• Student’s grades and grade point average (GPA),
• School name and contact information

Cash for Good Grades Policy

• The application period to submit Fall report cards is January 1-31.
• The application period for Spring report cards is June 1 to July 8.
• The deadlines will be at 12 noon Alaska time. Deadlines that fall on a weekend will actually close on the preceding Friday.

The Youth Advance Scholarship is provided to help younger students (between 3 years old and up to 12th Grade) participate in athletic, scholastic, or artistic activities. Applications are reviewed throughout the year until the budget is expended. Funding is limited and available for voting shareholders of The Aleut Corporation (Aleut) and registered descendants of a voting Aleut shareholder. An applicant may apply multiple times in a year to receive a maximum of $500 total per award year.
